In the Darlington school board race, there are four people up for three open seats. Incumbents Matt Crist, Joe Schilling and Nicholas Zuberbuhler are being challenged by Donna Jean Wiegel.

Age: 40
City/Town of residence: Lifelong resident of Darlington
Family: I'm married to Cindy Crist. We have 3 children. Ross is 10 years old and in the 4th grade. Kylie is 9 years old and currently in 3rd grade. Our youngest is Ryker. He is 6 years old and in Kindergarten.
Education: I am a proud graduate of Darlington. I continued my education at MATC and received an Associate Degree in Marketing and Business.
Occupation: I am the owner/operator of Riverside Truck & Auto LLC. I also am a partner with my Brothers in our farming operation. We operate 1250 acres of cropland and have 250 head of beef cows.
Previous elected positions held: I am currently a member of the Darlington School Board.
What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
Our district's biggest challenge is the continued decrease of State Aid while trying to maintain a level of excellence that the Darlington schools have grown to expect and deserve. The ever increasing cost of keeping up with technology and maintaining our building and grounds continue to be a challenge. As a school board member, one must take these budget issues very seriously. One must understand our needs versus our wants when making decisions.
What are other key issues facing the district and how would you work to resolve them?
With the latest referendum being passed, it is our duty to use the tax payer's money in an effective and efficient manner. I believe that keeping the people informed is important when making big and small decisions.
Why are you the best candidate for the office?
I believe that my well rounded background in sales, service, and business qualifies me in many ways. I am a lifelong Darlington resident and I believe I have a vested interested in our community. I believe a school's strength equates to the strength of its community.
