What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
I feel the top issue is keeping Brodhead a successful City for now and in the future. The City just completed the Comprehensive Plan that is the "Living guide for growth and change for Brodhead". The plan outlines 20 action steps that should be pursued in the next 10 years. Work has begun through committees on 4 of the top issues identified in a community survey that was done in preparation of the Comprehensive Plan process. A hotel feasibility study is being done to see if Brodhead is a good site for a hotel. Plans are being worked on for a Senior/Community Center. A marketing study and First Impression program, working with UW Madison and University Extension, are in the planning stages to address the survey responses of attracting a wider variety of businesses and restaurants, and focusing on revitalizing downtown.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
I feel other key issues re to keep the City's infrastructure functioning in a positive manner, working within the budget to keep pace and not get behind in any department so as not to have to do any sort of catch up to get things back in working order. City needs to work with the current businesses, and always be looking for new businesses, working with Green County Development and other available resources. Promoting tourism to get people to Brodhead to eat, visit, shop, or live. Some of the key attractions are the bike trail, Pearl Island recreational corridor, airport, and murals. The City is working on getting an ATV trail to Brodhead from Monroe.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I feel that I am the best candidate for this job because I am totally committed to Brodhead. I am involved in civic and government activities. I am out in the public, aware, and interested in the community. I have been Mayor for 14 years and this the second time that I have been challenged in an election. I have the experience and the interest, and am willing to continue working for the success of Brodhead now and into the future.
