What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
I believe one of the top issues facing the district is retaining and recruiting staff and students. Some of our staff as well as students are leaving to surrounding area districts. I would look into why they are leaving and work with everyone to try to resolve this issue. It is essential that our staff feel supported and valued. As a community and board, we need to find ways to attract new families and quality staff to Monroe.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
Financial issues continue to affect our school district. Monroe is a great community and showed their support by saying, "yes" to the referendum. If elected, I will analyze and interpret our funding and spending. It's our responsibility to work together to make sure we are making the best decisions possible for our students and taxpayers.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I feel I would be a good candidate because I have had the experience being an employee in the Monroe School District. I was employed in the district for fourteen years from 2001-2015 at three different buildings in three different positions. I started out working at Parkside Elementary School for five years as an Educational Assistant. After being laid off from my position at Parkside Elementary, I worked one year at the Monroe High School in Food Service. My last eights years in the district, I was Building Secretary at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School. I made many positive connections with students, staff, and parents. Both my husband and I have lived in Monroe our entire lives and graduated from Monroe High School. Both our children graduated from Monroe High School in 2010 and 2014. If elected, I intend to be a familiar face in the schools. We need to work as a team to preserve and improve our school district, which includes listening to the interests and concerns of the students, staff, parents, and community. I am a dedicated, honest, caring, trustworthy, and fair candidate who is ready to give my heart and time for this exciting challenge.
