Catherine M. McGowan
Position sought: Lafayette County Clerk of Court
Age: 60
City/town of residence: Town of Darlington
Family: Husband - Steve, 4 sons, 4 daughter-in-laws, 10 grandchildren
Education: Graduated from Darlington High School, one year at UW Madison
Occupation: Clerk of Court since 1997
Previous elected positions held: Holy Rosary Church Council, Humpty Dumpty Pre-school Board, Wrestling Club president and member
What are the top issues facing this district/board/office and how would you work to resolve them?
The main duty of the Clerk of Court is to maintain the record. The office is currently scanning all files into the CCAP system and working on scanning older records as time allows and this helps with our storage problems. The office is also working on collecting the fees through tax intercept and a collection agency when appropriate.
What are other key issues facing the district/board/office, and how would you work to resolve them?
Keeping within the budget each year when there is no increase allowed is a challenge and I try to keep expenses within the budgeted amount. Also keep current on the collection of the fines and fees.
