What are the top issues facing this district/board and how would you work to resolve them?

Decreasing Budget: Find new revenue by locating new grants along with other revenue sources. Make cuts when possible while still protecting what is in the best interest for the kids, staff, the taxpayers and the school districts.

Declining Enrollment: Promote are school through open enrollment.

Keeping Current Staff and attracting qualified new staff: Working with other school districts to possibly share staff between districts.

Curriculum: Maintaining a high level of level of curriculum by monitoring are curriculum and making changes when needed to give are students a better education. Provide more online learning classes and to provide classes when possible that would give students a chance to earn credits towards college degree.

What are other key issues facing the district/board, and how would you work to resolve them?

Federal Health Care Law: This is a issue that can be resolved by attending workshops and conferences to get the most up-to-date information on how this law will effect are district.

State and federal mandates which include the Common Core curriculum and standards, RTI and Smarter Balance assessments. These are some issues that some people are talking about changing again. We resolve these issue by giving are staff the most up-to-date information, training, staff development and by giving them time to attend workshops so they can become better teachers.

The image of public education: We need to fight for are local rural schools and public education against those people who would like to privatize our schools. The privatizing of are public education system would not only take away are local control but also I believe it also would put are kids at disadvantage and believe this wrong and that's I would fight to keep public education strong. There are also those people who believe we should combine are small rural schools into one school and again I could not more strongly disagree with these people. There is a lot to be said for are local small rural schools.

Are local schools give are students more opportunity than some of the bigger schools and it is great for small communities. This is why I would fight for are local schools and also for public education.

Why are you the best candidate for this office?

I feel that I am the best candidate for the Darlington school board because of my time commitments and listening skills. I feel it is important to attend all meetings, workshops and the state convention to become more informed and a better board member. I willing to make the tough decisions and will ask the question that need to be asked, while challenging everyone in the district to better themselves so that we can better our district. I would be good steward of tax payer dollars by spending money on only those things that would be good investment for the district.
