What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
As a parent, I am proud to send my children to the New Glarus School District. We are fortunate to have a district that excels academically thanks to our great administrators, teachers and support staff. I believe that as a school board member there will be challenges to maintaining a budget that continues to hire top notch educators as well as retain our current staff. Making the hard decisions to keep our wages competitive with surrounding districts will be a top priority as a school board member. I'm excited to be a part of that conversation because our staff is what makes our children's experience at school so positive and the reason our district is successful.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
When you have a top-rated school, such as New Glarus, that shows success in and out of the classroom year after year people take notice. As a result, the enrollment at our school increases each year. This puts extra demands on the space we have available. One of the questions the school board has addressed is will the district need to limit open enrollment? I am in support of limiting our enrollment as necessary to keep the balance of a small school with big opportunities.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
I have lived and worked in the great Village of New Glarus for the last 14 years. I have sent my children to the New Glarus schools for the last 8 years and I have 18 more years of sending my children through those doors day in and day out, year after year. What an outstanding opportunity it would be for me to invest my time and energy into the policies and decisions the school board faces day in and day out as I guide my children into adulthood and look out for the children of my friends and neighbors. I would be proud to be elected to the New Glarus school board.
