What are the top issues facing this district/municipality and how would you work to resolve it?
The top issue facing Darlington Community Schools is school funding and the constant tampering our state legislature is perpetrating on public education. Every year public schools in Wisconsin are faced with new state funding formulas, expansion of programs giving tax money to unaccountable private schools, changes to state assessments, and fabricated controversy regarding state standards. In my time on our school board, I have worked to minimize the disruptive nature of these external forces while satisfying the requirements of the law. If re-elected I will continue to do so in order for our staff to continue to provide a consistent and excellent education for our children.
What are other key issues facing the district/municipality, and how would you work to resolve them?
There are countless important issues facing every school district. Keeping up with technology, state standards, state and federal initiatives and facility planning are only a few that we are currently facing. In all cases the best way to resolve these issues and others are to be inclusive and involve all stakeholders in finding solutions. We need leaders who listen and build consensus - taking into account the wishes of district staff, parents and the community in general.
Why are you the best candidate for this office?
My past experience on the school board, my willingness to work hard and my passion for education make me the best candidate. I have served as chairperson for the curriculum, technology, legislative and climate committees. I have spent many hours in meetings and outside of meetings learning what I could in order to make the best decisions possible for our children. I am excited for the opportunity to continue to learn and serve on the Darlington Community Schools board of education.
