Calendar parking for Monroe begins Saturday

MONROE - MONROE - Calendar parking regulations for Monroe begin Saturday and will continue through March 31, 2015, requiring people to park on the even side of the streets and avenues on even-numbered dates and on the odd side on odd-numbered dates.

Citizens are encouraged to park their vehicles at night on the side of the street or avenue that will be affected the next day. Odd or even sides can be determined by looking at street addresses.

Citations for violating the ordinance begin at $20 and increase for each following offense. Nearly every area is covered by the ordinance except for on the Square downtown and the streets one block away in any direction from the Square.

Snow route areas are marked by signage on the Square and the smoky row area on 17th Street. If snowfall exceeds 2 inches, all vehicles are required to be vacated from the street for snow removal.

The Monroe Police Department warns that snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks as soon as possible following a snowfall for safety. It is a violation of city ordinance to shovel, blow, throw or plow snow from private property onto city streets or the property of another citizen.
