NEW GLARUS - After 35 years with the Monroe Clinic, Joyce Hummel has retired.
Hummel graduated from Monticello High School and moved to Minneapolis to attend the Medical Institute of Minnesota and become a medical laboratory technician. After earning her degree, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to work at Broadlawns County Hospital. She and husband Larry later moved back to Green County, and she began working for Monroe Clinic. She took off a few years to work on the Monticello family farm and raise her children, and then returned to work in 1980 to the Monroe Clinic, working in Monroe for many years before transferring to the New Glarus branch in 1994.
Hummel volunteers with Green Cares Food Pantry, Green Haven Family Advocates call center and Washington Reformation UCC. She is currently on the Monticello School Board and has recently joined the board for the New Glarus Home.
