MONROE - The community Budget Advisory Task Force charged with generating a list of financial priorities for the Monroe School District will make a presentation to the school board at its next meeting Nov. 28.

The task force comprised of community members has met several times since September to set financial priorities for the district for the 2012-13 school year and beyond. The school district also has a staff budget committee that will make a presentation on Nov. 28.

Monroe School District Superintendent Larry Brown said that once the board has heard the presentations, the next step will be for the administration to take the information into consideration and develop a draft of the district's priorities.

"At that point, it becomes a working document for the board," Brown said. "It has been interesting to hear our faculty and community members work through that process."

The district will operate this year with a deficit of about $811,000. Monroe Business Manager Ron Olson has said that the deficit will be offset by bringing in this year's budget less than expected or using the $400,000 the district carried over from last year's budget.

The budget includes the $1.87 million in cuts the district made after taxpayers rejected a four-year, $8 million non-recurring referendum in April.

In other business Monday, the district will pay Heartland Business Systems $5,560 to perform a wireless site survey during winter break between Christmas and New Year's. Every school and the district office and library will be surveyed. Heartland Business Systems will deliver an electronic survey report and conduct a meeting to discuss the results.

Olson said the district is completing the wireless site survey so it can see what the estimated cost might be if it elects to put a wireless network in the district's schools and administrative center.

The board also:

n Approved a resolution for a $2.3 million school district tax anticipation note. Olson said the district will only use the credit line if they need it to meet cash flow needs. Last year the district didn't need to use the money.

n Approved the hiring of Melissa Meier as a cafeteria worker at Northside School.

n Accepted a cabinet donated by Ekum Abstract and Quill Office Supply.
