CEDARVILLE - A Browntown man was killed when his vehicle was hit by an oncoming car that crossed into his path at about midnight Friday on Illinois 26 near Buckeye Road north of Cedarville.
Lee Bessert, 48, was flown to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he died at about 3:45 a.m. Saturday, according to the Stephenson County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies report a southbound vehicle driven by Justin Stajcar, 23, Freeport, crossed into the northbound lane and collided with Bessert's vehicle. Stajcar was taken to Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford.
According to the sheriff's department, Stajcar was arrested for driving while under the influence, improper lane usage, driving too fast for conditions and unsafe tires.
The Cedarville and Orangeville fire departments assisted at the scene.
No court date has been set for Stajcar.
