MONROE - The case of a Brodhead woman charged with child abuse will proceed to trial after the woman waived her preliminary hearing Thursday.

Angela AnnMarie Kazar, 25, stood mute on a Class I felony charge of child abuse at what would have been her preliminary hearing. After Kazar waived her right to the hearing, a pre-trial conference was scheduled for Aug. 2.

Kazar's charge stems from an incident May 4 when Kazar slapped a child she was baby-sitting across the face. The violence occurred after the toddler had been screaming.

Although the child suffered no lasting damage, there were visible facial bruises after the slap.

Kazar signed a $2,000 signature bond on May 9 with conditions that she have no unsupervised contact with the victim.
