BRODHEAD - Investigator Trevor Long has been promoted to the position of deputy chief of police for the city of Brodhead.
When Brian Raupp, former deputy chief of the Brodhead Police Department, resigned after accepting a position as the chief of police for the village of Orfordville, it was determined the city had a talented group of officers, so there was no need to look any further to fill the vacancy.
Upon review, it was determined that Long possessed the qualifications and dedication the department was looking for in the community's next deputy chief. Long accepted the position and the personnel committee worked out an employment agreement with him.
The city's common council met and discussed the recommendation of the personnel and public safety committees and reviewed the proposed employment agreement. The common council voted Dec. 19 to approve Long's promotion and employment agreement. He was sworn into his official duties at the council's Jan. 8 meeting.
Long holds an associate degree in police science from Blackhawk Technical College. He began his career with the Brodhead Police Department as a community service officer in 2001. he was sworn in as a full-time police officer Jan. 11, 2004. He has held numerous assignments throughout his career, but the longest position he held was as the department's investigator.
Long has received advanced training through the Wisconsin Department of Justice, which addressed being a first-line supervisor and conducting death investigations. He also has received training from the International Association of Chiefs of Police, titled "Leadership in Police Organizations."
