BRODHEAD - The Brodhead City Council is looking for a new clerk after it terminated long-time city clerk/treasurer Nancy Schoeller last month.
Schoeller, who had been city clerk/treasurer for more than 30 years, was let go June 30, said Brodhead Mayor Doug Pinnow.
Pinnow wouldn't give specific reasons as to why the council voted to get rid of Schoeller. He said the council didn't think Schoeller was performing her duties. Pinnow said there wasn't any misconduct or illegal activity on Schoeller's part.
The council voted on the termination in closed session. Pinnow said he wasn't able to give any more information about why Schoeller was let go.
Deputy city clerk Ellen Popanz will take over Schoeller's duties as city clerk until a full-time replacement is hired. Arlinda Faessler and Roseann Meixelsperger have been hired on a part-time basis to help in the clerk's office until a replacement is hired.
Pinnow said the council would like to have a full-time clerk hired as soon as possible.
Schoeller was not available for comment Friday.
