BRODHEAD - Brodhead Police issued 18 citations and arrested three drivers Friday during its third annual high visibility traffic safety deployment.

The Brodhead Police Department, assisted by the Belleville and New Glarus police departments, stopped 19 drivers between 6:30 and 10:30 p.m. Friday.

According to a Brodhead Police news release, the deployment was supported by a $59,000 grant through the Wisconsin Bureau of Transportation Safety to increase police presence on highways considered by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation to be at a higher risk for speeding or alcohol-related crashes.

The citations, many of which occurred on or around Wisconsin 11 and Wis. 81, were handed out for violations ranging from speeding, seatbelt violations, failing to stop at a stop sign or other non-moving violations.

In addition, three people were arrested during the deployment.

Darren Misner, 23, Beloit, was arrested for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. Misner was found with 43 grams of marijuana when he was stopped for failing to display a front license plate.

Selena Torres, 18, Kent, Washington, was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Torres was smoking marijuana when police stopped the vehicle in which she was a passenger for loud exhaust.

Kevin Bobolz, 38, Brodhead, was arrested for fourth-offense driving while intoxicated. Bobolz was found with a preliminary alcohol concentration of .11 when he was stopped for having a defective tail light.

Brodhead Police Chief Chris Hughes said the deployment would hopefully help to raise public awareness and make the community's streets safer.
