BRODHEAD - Brodhead native Micah Wallace always dreamed of making his way to the spotlight. And within a year of moving to the home of Broadway, he made it happen.

Throughout his adolescence, Wallace attended numerous shows at the Overture Center in Madison. He said he would look up at the stage, in awe of the glittering costumes and swift moves of the performers. In mid-January, Wallace found his way back to that same stage, this time as a part of a Broadway ensemble. Now 25, Wallace is part of a traveling group performing "Beauty and the Beast." From Jan. 13 to 17, he was able to dazzle on the stage in Madison for an audience that included family and friends.

"Growing up, I attended shows at the Overture Center," Wallace said. "To be able to perform on that stage was pretty cool."

Wallace went to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for musical theater. After graduating in 2014, he made his way to New York City.

He said the secret to success is believing in yourself and attacking life with a positive attitude. The optimism paid off, and Wallace is now touring the country with fellow castmates, visiting nearly every state to perform weekly.

While in Madison, Wallace shed his usual role as an ensemble dancer to tackle the role of the Beast. His mother Cindi Wallace said her son was "amazing."

"It was awesome to see him," she said. "It was really cool to be right here where we've been going to see things for, I don't know, 30 years."

The show had sold-out crowds, and Wallace's family attended twice to see him perform. The dancer said "Beauty and the Beast" is relatable for all ages and that he was happy to see loved ones in the audience.

"They were ecstatic to be there," Wallace said. "And just so supportive after the show."

Micah said his family has been behind him from the beginning. In high school, he spent time in sports, choir and took part in musicals. When he wanted to pursue musical theater, his family stood behind his decision.

"I loved doing it," Micah said. "My family was amazingly supportive."
