MONROE - A Brodhead man hit by an alleged drunk driver Sunday is back at home recovering after being hospitalized for his injuries, his daughter said Tuesday.

Steve Stettler, 60, was crossing the street mid-block on foot at 8:25 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of 17th Street when Larry R. Sommers, 63, Monroe, struck Stettler with his car, according to the Monroe Police Department.

Sommers was arrested on a charge of causing injury by operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He posted bond and was released from custody, according to police. No injuries were reported for Sommers.

Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said it is the third offense related to driving under the influence for Sommers.

Shaya Guilbault, Stettler's daughter, said that while he did not suffer any major injuries or broken bones, he had to get stitches and has a concussion that will last for up to a month.

"He's really banged up," said Guilbault. "He's just taking it easy for now."

Stettler, a master cheesemaker, has worked at Decatur Dairy since 1973 and is now president of the cheese company.

Stettler was initially brought to Monroe Clinic by ambulance, then transported to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison Sunday night, Guilbault said. He was released from UW Hospital Monday, she said.

Stettler told The Monroe Times Tuesday that he's feeling "sore."

"I'm a little beat up," he said.
