TOWN OF AVON — A Brodhead man was arrested May 9 for his fourth offense of Operating While Intoxicated.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Department, at 4:46 p.m. on May 9, a deputy responded to the intersection of Wisconsin 81 and County T in the Town of Avon for a report of a vehicle in the ditch and a subject slumped over in the driver seat.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as John F. Meier, 35, Brodhead. Meier displayed signs of impairment and the investigation resulted in his arrest for Operating While Intoxicated, 4th Offense.

Meier has three prior convictions for Operating While Intoxicated, making this arrest a felony. Meier was transported to the Rock County Jail. His initial court appearance was May 12 in front of Judge Jack Hoag. He had a signature bond set at $1,000 and is required not to drive unless validly licensed and insured, and only to and from work. He must also maintain absolute sobriety. The court ordered a Level 3 supervision through JusticePoint.

Meier’s next appearance is set for 1 p.m. on June 16 in front of Hoag again at the Rock County Courthouse.
