BRODHEAD - The City of Brodhead will open new ATV/UTV trails through the city Wednesday morning.

Several designated ATV routes and loading zones will be open for ATV use at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The routes extend from Decatur Road to 25th Street and primarily involve West 3rd Avenue, 17th Street and East 4th Avenue.

According to a Brodhead Police press release, the Brodhead Common Council voted to establish ATV routes through the city in 2015. Now that Brodhead's Public Works Department and the Green County ATV Club have posted appropriate signage throughout the routes, ATVs will be able to travel along the routes during appropriate hours starting this week.

The press release also reminds drivers that ATV/UTV routes are closed between 10 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. daily.

The release said that city ordinance states ATV/UTVs must:

• obey all DNR regulations

• obey all traffic and parking laws when operating on a city street

• drive single file on the extreme right side

• not operate an ATV/UTV on any sidewalk

• not leave the ignition key in an unattended ATV/UTV

• ATV/UTV routes are closed between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., daily

ATV/UTV route maps and excerpts from the city ordinance are available at the Brodhead Police Department or on its website.
