MONROE - Brennan's Market's grocery reach soon will be expanding.

The specialty grocer that started with Frank Brennan's fruit and cheese stand in Monroe in 1942, broke ground Wednesday on a new store in Oconomowoc. Site work already has begun, and the new store is slated for completion in August. The store will be approximately 26,125 square feet and is part of a larger retail development just north of the intersection of Interstate 94 and Wisconsin 67.

In addition to the Monroe grocery, Brennan's Markets are in Madison, and Brookfield. Its Direct Buy method brings in goods directly from farms, orchards, vineyards, microbreweries and cheese factories near and far. Brennan's is a family owned business.

The new Oconomowoc store will be a woodlam structure with brick exterior, and will feature an attached greenhouse. The produce room features Brennan's signature glass garage doors, which can be opened in fair weather to create a fresh air market.
