MONTICELLO - A Monticello man found outside of his car Sunday morning by a snow plow driver died Monday morning.
Donald L. Blum, 54, died at approximately 5 a.m. Monday at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, the Green County Sheriff's Department announced today.
Blum had been found outside of his 1995 Buick passenger car and initially was transported to Monroe Clinic Hospital and later transferred to the UW hospital.
Preliminary information indicates Blum delivers newspapers and begins his route early on Sunday mornings. Blum's route includes deliveries east of Monticello and, while at the hospital, Blum told deputies that at about 2:30 a.m. he became stuck in a snowdrift on Silver Road, which is approximately three miles east of Monticello. Due to the severe weather and his health-related conditions, Blum stayed with his vehicle and was found at about 9:30 a.m. by a Mount Pleasant Township snow plow driver.
Green County Coroner Jan Perry indicated Blum's death was weather-related, caused by hypothermia, which resulted in heart failure.
