MONROE - A gas leak at a mobile home park at the intersection of Wisconisin 69 and 17th Street led to evacuations around 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire Chief Daryl Rausch said a gas valve had been broken off the meter. Gas was leaking into the air.
Members of the Monroe Police Department closed off 17th Street from Wis. 69 to Eighth Ave. and evacuated residents of nine mobile homes as Monroe Fire Department firefighters stood by with water hoses in hand as a precaution.
Power to the area was also taken offline while crews fixed the valve.
WE Energies capped the broken valve by 6:45 a.m.
