MONROE - Bonnie Bitz was given until 4:30 p.m. Thursday to pay a $2,100 bond to the Green County Clerk of Court or the county will take custody of her dogs.

Bitz had not paid the bond as of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the clerk of court office.

Green County Corporation Counsel Bill Morgan said the county will have to pay the costs to house 20 dogs seized from Bitz's home until the case is resolved and then try to be reimbursed by Bitz.

Morgan asked, and Circuit Court Judge James Beer agreed, for a bond to be used to cover expenses.

Beer ordered Bitz to pay the court.

Bitz, 46, Juda, was in Green County Circuit Court Thursday for a hearing to determine the cost of care of animals seized by the county Feb. 24 at her residence at W3520 Middle Juda Road.

Morgan told Green County Circuit Court Judge James Beer the 20 dogs taken from Bitz are at the Green County Humane Society (GCHS). Morgan said the humane society estimates the cost to house the dogs is $2,100 a week. There are also costs for other expenses incurred in February, such as medical treatments, food and housing in the amount of more than $1,800.
