NEW GLARUS - Charges are pending against the assistant branch manager of Amcore Bank in New Glarus, who is accused of taking more than $100,000 from the bank over the past three years.
Abigail K. Eichelkraut, 25, New Glarus, was taken into custody Aug. 13 by the New Glarus Police Department, according to Police Chief Steve Allbaugh. Eichelkraut later confessed to embezzling $114,878 from the bank over a three-year period, Allbaugh said.
The Green County District Attorney's office was notified and Eichelkraut was released, pending a criminal complaint being filed.
As of this morning, no complaint had been filed.
Allbaugh said New Glarus Police officers were called to Amcore Bank, located at 512 Wisconsin 69, at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers were told that an internal investigation had been ongoing for some time and it was discovered that an employee had embezzled money from the bank over a period of time.
