Monroe Fire Department responded to a house fire call at 10:44 a.m. Sunday in the 2500 block of 10th Street. Officials said that the fire started in the kitchen. Three occupants, an adult and two children, were in the house at the time but were uninjured and safe, said Monroe Fire Department Deputy Chief Lane Heins said, adding that a dog was rescued from the basement and taken to a local veterinarian for further examination.
