Breaking: Former Monroe man arrested for suspected overdose death

MONROE - A 2008 Monroe graduate was arrested Aug. 24 in connection with a suspected overdose death of an acquaintance. 

Levi Edward Jordan Janssens, 32 of Verona, was arrested at 6:37 p.m. on Aug. 23 at the Monroe Police Department as a result of an investigation into the death of a 32-year-old Monroe man on Aug. 23, according to an Aug. 24 press release from Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley. Janssens was arrested for 1st Degree Reckless Homicide and Possession of Narcotics with the Intent to Deliver, and is confined in the Green County Jail pending a court appearance. 

A Monroe man, whose name is being withheld, was found unresponsive at a hotel in the 500 block of 6th Street. Kelley said it is a suspected overdose, and that toxicology results may not be available for a couple of weeks.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by officers and detectives of the Monroe Police Department, along with members of the State Line Area Narcotics Task Force (SLANT). SLANT consists of personnel from the Illinois State Police, Freeport, Loves Park, Belvidere and Rockford, Illinois police departments, as well as the Boone County (Ill.) Sheriff's Department, Monroe Police Department, Green County Sheriff's Department and Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
