ALBANY - Joseph Cousin, 63, who served on the Green County Board of Supervisors since 2002, died Friday at his home.

Cousin was chairman of the Green County Health Committee and also served as a member of the Green County Human Services Committee.

RoAnn Warden, Green County Health Department director, said Cousin will be missed.

"Green County has lost a caring, true advocate for public health," she said. "Our department, our committee and Green County residents will experience a great loss."

Green County Board of Supervisors chairman Art Carter agreed.

"His main goal was to back the committee he was on," Carter said. "He cared about services to people."

Cousin was elected to the Albany Village Board in 1997 and served until 2005. He also served as Albany village president from 2005 to 2007.

Cousin, who was born Aug. 1, 1947 in Beloit, was a 1965 graduate of Beloit Catholic High school. He received a bachelor's degree from Loras College in Dubuque, attended the University of Wisconsin and received his master's degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

He is survived by his wife, Julie. His obituary appears on page A2 of today's edition.

Carter said the county board will look to find someone to fill Cousin's place on the board. Cousin represented District 25.

He was elected to a two-year term on the board in April. Anyone interested in filling Cousin's position can contact Green County Clerk Mike Doyle at (608) 328-9430.
