WALDWICK — A 33-year-old Blanchardville man died in a crash Jan. 7.

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said Augustus Mitchell died in the crash on Wis. 191 near Squirrel Hill Road around 10:55 a.m.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell was driving south on 191 and failed to negotiate the curve. 

Mitchell, who the Sheriff’s Office said was not wearing a seat belt, was found dead by emergency services, the Sheriff’s Office said. 

The Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa County coroner are investigating.

Dodgeville, Hollandale and Ridgeway Fire, Hollandale First Response, Dodgeville EMS, UW Med Flight, the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Iowa County Highway Department assisted at the scene.

Mitchell is the first fatality on Iowa County roads this year.
