MONROE - A 35-year-old Blanchardville man was released on bond Monday in Green County Circuit Court where
he faces misdemeanor charges of sexually assaulting a woman at a Monroe bar.
Charles Anderson had a signature bond set at $1,500 with conditions that he not drink, do drugs, enter bars or liquor stores, or have any contact with the alleged victim in this case. Anderson asked Judge Jim Beer if he is allowed to go bowling, which Beer agreed to with the stipulation that Anderson not enter the bar area of any bowling alley.
Anderson is charged with two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault stemming from an incident that occurred Jan. 2.
Court records indicate Anderson groped a woman twice while out drinking with several people. The woman reported the alleged assault to police and the responding officer wrote in his report that she was in distress and was "visibly shaken." The woman said she told Anderson to stop multiple times. The responding officer attempted to call Anderson the day of the alleged assault but was unable to get a hold of him. Anderson answered a call Jan. 20 and agreed to go to the Monroe Police Department Jan. 23 to be interviewed. The officer wrote in his report that Anderson appeared anxious throughout the interview with his "foot constantly tapping." Anderson at first denied assaulting the woman, saying his memory was hazy because he was inebriated at the time of the incident. Anderson later admitted to the officer that he groped the woman.
If convicted for the maximum penalty on both charges, Anderson could serve up to 18 months in jail or face $20,000 in fines or both. He has a pretrial conference on April 7.
