Black Hawk superintendent field nearly set

SOUTH WAYNE - The Black Hawk school board will interview at least three, maybe four, finalists for the district's superintendent position.

The school board on Monday night selected three finalists.

Interim Superintendent Peter Etter said he plans to interview another candidate, from Freeport, on Feb. 27 as part of the screening process he is responsible for.

The finalists are:

• Eric Franzen, a science teacher with proper certification at Waukesha North High School.

• Roger Kordus, the middle school associate principal in the New Richmond school district.

• Chris Thomalla, superintendent of the Elcho school district.

Etter said the school board will interview the finalists on March 1 and March 8.

"I will not be involved in the interviews of finalists," Etter said. "The board should select who their next superintendent will be."

Etter received 11 applications for the position, which Etter has held since the summer of 2007, when then Superintendent Kevin Shetler left to take a similar position with the River Ridge school district.
