Grieving the loss of his previous dog, Tom Jenson decided to walk dogs as a volunteer at the Green County Humane Society. That's where he met Theodore, a 3-year-old beagle mix who helped heal his broken heart. One of the reasons Jenson, who works at Klondike Cheese, was drawn to Theodore was because he looked similar to his previous dog.

Describe Theodore's personality.

He's very outgoing, which is the opposite of when I first got him. When I first met him, I thought he was so adorable and when I got within about 10 or 15 yards he ran away to the opposite side of the kennel. He was petrified of people. Now, he's in loving arms. Once he went up to a tiny cat and was hissed at, and he ran the other direction, so he doesn't really like cats. He was terrified. He gets along with other dogs really well though.

What are your favorite things to do together?

He likes to go on walks and run around and smell everything. We walk to the Square a lot and several people there know him by name. He likes to hang out together at home and to have his belly rubbed. He likes to eat anything and everything, even if it's not edible. He also likes to bark a lot.

What has it been like having Theodore in your life?

Adopting him really helped with the grieving over my previous dog. He kind of filled that void. Just knowing he had a bad past and me being able to give him a better life is something that really means a lot to me. It's something I'm so happy I can do.
