Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest

Mark Nesbitt, senior sports reporter for the Times, talks about his best friend Wrigley, a 6-month-old shiba inu.

Nesbitt and his wife, Anna, decided to get Wrigley as a surprise birthday present for their 16-year-old daughter, Kayleigh. They found Wrigley at Petland in Janesville and picked her because she had a good temperament and was good with the other dogs. She sleeps with Nesbitt's daughter every night and is named Wrigley after Nesbitt's love of the Chicago Cubs.

Describe Wrigley's personality.

She's playful. If you read up on the breed, it says they have mentalities like cats. She can be very mischievous and likes to get into things. You really have to be on her a lot. She's a good family dog and very intelligent.

What do you and Wrigley like to do together?

Her favorite game is catch. She's a hunting dog, so she always brings it back. She'll fetch anything. We like to go on walks together. She likes to run around inside the family room and use the furniture as an obstacle course.

What has it been like having Wrigley in your life?

It has added some extra excitement that I was not planning on. It's like having another newborn child again. You really have to watch out, because she chews on so many things. We didn't put up our big Christmas tree this year, because my wife thought she'd go after the ornaments. She's got a good temperament; it's just training her to calm down a little.
