Best Friends is a weekly feature designed to highlight a local resident and his or her pets. To suggest

Dawn Walters of Monroe talks about her best friend Phoebe Sophia, a 13-year-old orange cat.

Walters met Phoebe after a friend found her injured in a ditch in Albany at just 4 weeks old. Walters took Phoebe to a veterinarian, who told her one of Phoebe's legs was infected and required amputation. The vet informed Walters the cat only had a 12 percent chance of surviving the surgery, but Phoebe is now healthier than ever, leading a pampered life with Walters.

Walters has a close relationship with Phoebe. Her paw print and name are tattooed on Walters' arm. She also wears a necklace that matches the charm on Phoebe's collar.

"She's the love of my life," Walters said.

Describe Phoebe's personality.

She's a crab. She likes her momma and that's pretty much it. She knows what she wants and she usually gets it. She's got her own heating pad and a stroller I take her for walks in.

What do you and Phoebe do together?

She likes to watch movies with me. Her favorite movie is "Jurassic Park." She likes her toys. She'll play and she just meows, and I meet her needs. She'll watch the tablet with me and we go for walks in the stroller. Mostly it's just "meow" and "give me what I want."

What has it been like having Phoebe in your life?

She's my best friend. She's my angel on Earth. I can tell her anything. She's crawled into my heart and that was it. I'd be lost without her. She's definitely a challenge sometimes, but she makes my world. I was in a dark place when I found her and thought 'this was sent to fix you,' so I fixed her and she fixed me.
