MONROE - Vietnam veterans still can qualify for health care and prescription drug benefits through the Veterans Administration, but they need to register soon.

Green County Veterans Service Officer Keith Ingwell said there is no time limit as to when veterans can sign up for the benefits, but said the benefits might not be available in the future.

"Veterans need to sign up as soon as possible," Ingwell said. "We want to get as many veterans signed up as we can."

The benefits apply to people who were stationed in Vietnam. "They had to have their boots on the ground in Vietnam," Ingwell said.

Vietnam veterans who would like to sign up for the benefits need to contact the Green County Veterans Service office at 328-9415 to make an appointment to apply.

Ingwell said veterans need to bring their DD-214 papers.
