BELLEVILLE - The Belleville School Board unanimously approved starting a four-year-old kindergarten program beginning in September.
The program is for students who are 4 years old by Sept. 1. It will be held at the elementary school and consist of four half-day sessions, either in the morning or afternoons, running Monday through Thursday in the school-year calendar. Transportation will be provided to and from school.
The 4K program is designed to prepare children to do well in the early years of school by focusing on both social and academic skills. Belleville's 4K curriculum will be based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and will use a theme-based curriculum designed to build children's vocabulary skills and general knowledge.
The program will also consist of a Community Outreach component. Program staff will work with daycares and preschools to coordinate programming. Parent programs will be developed regarding behavior/discipline, speech/language development, sensory processing skills and early literacy skills.
Parents of incoming 4-year-olds, whose children participated in the recent screening in March, will be contacted with further details about the new program. Any parents of students who are 4 years old by Sept. 1 and whose child did not participate in the recent screening should contact Principal Julie Addison-Fulton at 608-424-3337 or at fultonj@belleville.k12.wi.us. The registration form is available on the Belleville Elementary School or at www.belleville.k12.wi.us.
