BELLEVILLE - A Belleville man is facing multiple felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child and child enticement for having sex with a 14-year-old girl along the Badger State Trail in Green County.
Matthew G. Tweed, 35, was charged in Green County Circuit Court Monday of five counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child, all Class C felonies, and two counts of child enticement-sexual contact, both Class D felonies. He posted $10,000 cash bond Tuesday.
Tweed allegedly met the victim when she was running along the trail. She said she allowed Tweed to run with her, and at one point, he allegedly stopped to kiss and touch her, according to published reports.
There were a total of four occasions of sexual contact between the girl and Tweed, the girl told police. Each instance happened along the trail.
Tweed said instances of sexual intercourse were consensual.
Tweed is currently on administrative leave from his job as a security guard at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, according to reports. The hospital said in a statement that it conducted a background check when Tweed was hired in 2009, and again in 2013, but neither check indicated any criminal record.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Tuesday.
