Barn fire kills thousands of pheasants near Belleville
News Brief with BKG

TOWN OF MONTROSE — A barn fire at a poultry farm near Belleville killed 3,000 pheasants Saturday night, Feb. 2, according to Belleville Fire Chief Brian Hollis.

Hollis said the fire started when melting snow or water got into an electrical panel at Wolff’s Bellefontaine Farms at 6618 Henry Rd., located just across the county line in Dane County in the unincorporated community of Basco.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, but there was significant loss of live poultry in the barn.

“They lost 3,000 of the 5,000 pheasants they were raising,” Hollis said.

Firefighters from Belleville responded to the fire at about 9 p.m., with assistance from fire departments in the surrounding area.
