DARLINGTON - Gary Bald of Darlington has been awarded the Dedicated Service Award by the Lafayette County Land Conservation Committee.
Bald started his career as a technician for the Ag Research station and then joined the Soil Conservation Service in October 1977. He has helped the landowners of Lafayette County for over 421/2 years.
He assisted many landowners in the design and installation of countless conservation practices throughout the years, including: Grassed waterways, grade stabilization structures, drop structures, both grass backed and farm-over terraces, stream-bank stabilization with fish habitat, manure storages, barnyards, contour strips and contour buffer strips.
Many landowners know, and have worked with Bald, constructing projects on their own farms. He has worked with many agencies including Land Conservation, Farm Service Agency, the DNR, Department of Agriculture and the Fish and Wildlife Service.
Bald has helped teach the students at Youth Conservation Day since the program's inception. This is an outdoor, educational program for the county's fifth graders. He also is an active member of the Fayette Sportsman's Club. This award is a thank you for his many years of service to Lafayette County and for his continued support of the county's conservation ethic.
