MONROE - An autopsy of two dogs found dead on a Willow Springs farm last week has revealed possible foul play in their deaths, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
The dogs were sent to the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory after they were found dead Feb. 6 on a farm on Ballard Road, Town of Willow Springs. A third dog, a 5-year-old Australian shepherd, was also found dead the same day under similar circumstances.
The autopsy report confirmed the presence of raw hamburger laced with an undisclosed toxic chemical in the animals' stomachs, said Troy Loeffelholz, chief deputy for the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.
Loeffelholz said he could not report the nature of the chemical found in the hamburger, he said that the circumstances appear "highly suspicious" and the case remains under investigation.
Despite one of the dogs' owner's repeated suspicions regarding a neighbor, Loeffelholz said there is still no person of interest in the case.
