MONROE - The First Methodist Church building at 1315 11th St., which houses the Monroe Arts Center, has been recognized with a Wisconsin Historical Marker.
The marker, through a grant from the Woman's Club of Monroe, was installed on the property Sept. 30.
The church and parsonage are on the National Register of Historic Places, because both were designed by Edward Townsend Mix. The church's corner stone was laid in 1869, and completed in 1887.
"We are so grateful for the long standing relationship MAC and the Monroe Woman's Club have, and we are especially grateful for their generous support of this Historical Marker," said Julie Wilke, president of the MAC Board of Directors.
