MONROE - The 12th anniversary Gavin Breadon Memorial Swim Meet and Silent Glass Art Auction will be held from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Monroe Public Swimming Pool.
All proceeds provide funding annually for 10 scholarships to MHS graduating seniors. The scholarships are presented to the students at the swim meet, after the singing of the national Anthem.
The event is held to commemorate Gavin Breadon, who died in October 2002. He was an 18 year member of MAST, being involved as a competitor, coach and lifeguard. He died at the start of his senior year of medical school in Dublin, Ireland.
All the glass art pieces are designed, created and blown by Eoin Breadon, brother of Gavin Breadon. Eoin Breadon is an assistant professor of sculpture at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The pieces can be viewed and bid upon at Boomerang Bakery, 1117 16th Ave., until Saturday, June 21.
An additional feature at the silent auction are dresses designed and made by Gavin's sister-in-law, Sandra Payne. She is a nationally recognized clothing and stage designer who worked with opera and theater companies in may areas, including Nashville, Atlanta and Hawaii..
