Arrest made in credit card fraud

BELOIT - A Beloit man was arrested July 22 for using a stolen credit card in July to make purchases at convenience stores and gas stations in southern Wisconsin.

William A. Mathis, 51, is charged with three counts of forgery and five counts of financial card crimes. He was released pending court.

His initial appearance is at 10 a.m. Aug. 25 in Rock County Circuit Court.

According to a news release issued Thursday by the Beloit Police Department, additional arrests are pending against other people who were involved with the crimes.

The stolen card was used to make purchases in the Beloit and South Beloit area. The card was stolen from a Monroe resident in July.

Beloit Police Capt. William Tyler was not able to comment on the case Friday.
