Community Center plans resale event

ALBANY - The Albany Community Center is hosting a Fall Resale Event from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Albany School, 400 5th St.

Albany teachers will be raising money with a sale and a bake sale to purchase new social studies books. The Albany PTO will be selling cinnamon rolls in the morning and will also host something to keep the kids busy while parents shop. The Community Center will also have a food stand during the lunch hours. All money raised for the rental of the booths will support the Albany Community Center and the activities they provide.

Historical Society program Oct. 16

ALBANY - Albany Historical Society will present the program "Marching Onward" by Staff Sgt. Orson Robertson at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the museum, 119 N. Water St.

Robertson is a three-time injured Vietnam Veteran, who will talk about his service in Vietnam. A short business meeting will precede the program. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Valley Pheasants Forever hunt set

ARGYLE - The Sugar River Valley Pheasants Forever 15th annual Youth/First-time Pheasant Hunt will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Argyle Rod and Gun Club, W9408 Wisconsin 81 .

The event is free and will be held with hunter safety refresher. A lunch, birds and mentors/dogs will be provided.

Diabetes Support Group will meet

MONROE - Monroe Clinic Diabetes Support Group will meet Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the cafe conference rooms on the second floor of the hospital.

The program will start at 7 p.m. and those who attend should arrive 6:45 p.m.

In honor of National Apple Month, the October meeting will be about apples. Those who attend will find out why "an apple a day" is supposed to "keep the doctor away," learn about different apple varieties and share and receive apple recipes.

Ed Foundation to hold fundraiser

MONROE - The Monroe Excellence in Education Foundation will hold a fundraiser on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Cousins Subs, 250 N. 18th Ave.

Ten percent of sales will go to the foundation. Fundraiser money is 100 percent used in the distribution of grant money to the teachers of Monroe for educational opportunities in the classrooms.

Sons of Norway meeting Oct. 11

MONROE - Monroe Sons of Norway lodge will meet Thursday, Oct. 11, at the former Resurrection Lutheran Church building north of the YMCA.

A light lunch will be served at 6:30 p.m. with the annual auction for the Sons of Norway Foundation to follow at 7 p.m. Items for the auction can be dropped off from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 or anytime after 4 p.m. Thursday at the former Resurrection Lutheran Church.

Guests are welcome.

Ham and Meatball supper Oct. 13

MONROE - The Ham and Meatball Supper and Bake Sale will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Clarno Zion United Methodist Church, W5292 County P.

The price is $9 for adults, $4.50 for ages 6 through 12 and free for ages 5 and under. Carry-outs are available.

Parent/teacher conferences Oct. 8

DARLINGTON - The fall parent/teacher conference for grades kindergarten through 12 in the Darlington Community School District will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8.

Parents of students attending grades kindergarten through sixth grade at the elementary/middle school will have pre-scheduled conference times. Parents of seventh- and eighth-grade students may attend conferences from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday.

All kindergarten through eight-grade academic and allied arts teacher conferences will be held in respective classes.

All high school teachers/advisors will be located in the high school gym.
