BRODHEAD - A suspect and an accomplice in an armed robbery of a Brodhead liquor store on Oct. 9 were arrested Monday after Rock County sheriff's deputies searched a residence the suspect was staying at.
Brandon J. Collier, 36, Town of Spring Grove, was arrested on charges of armed robbery and a convicted felon unlawfully in possession of a firearm. According to a Rock County Sheriff's Department news release, Collier allegedly took at least $100 and a cordless phone at gunpoint from County Line Beverage in Brodhead on Oct. 9. Collier was disguised in a mask and a hooded sweatshirt, brandishing a semi-automatic handgun. The lone clerk at the liquor store complied with the demands of Collier to give him cash from the register and a cordless phone.
The clerk called 911 shortly after Collier left and officers and deputies arrived within minutes accompanied by two Rock County K-9 units. The K-9 units followed a scent track but lost the trail around 10th Street, possibly because he entered a vehicle.
Collier became a suspect due to an earlier burglary in the area and because he had recently lived near County Line Beverage. Rock County detectives searched a residence he was reportedly staying at on Oct. 21 and following an investigation, arrested Collier Monday.
A friend of Collier's, Stacy Paul, was also arrested and jailed pending court. Paul, 34, Janesville, was arrested on charges of armed robbery and obstruction as a party to a crime.
