MONROE - Police are searching for a suspect in a reported armed robbery at about 11:30 a.m. Friday at Latin Brothers III grocery at 2823 8th Ave. on Monroe's far south side.

According to Monroe Police, initial reports indicate a masked Hispanic male entered the grocery, displayed a knife, confronted the clerk and asked for money. The clerk gave the robber an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The robber fled on foot, north on Eighth Avenue, police said.

The robber was described as a Hispanic male, age unknown, last seen wearing a dark-colored ski mask, a red shirt and black pants.

The incident remains under investigation.

The clerk originally called a family member to report the robbery, who then called the owner of the business at a Darlington branch. The owner called the Lafayette County Sheriff's Department, which assisted Monroe Police.

Two other Hispanic males were found in the parking lot by responding officers. Adan Martinez Rodriguez, 39, Monroe, was found to be wanted on a Monroe Police warrant for hit and run. He was taken into custody on the warrant and jailed. The other man was released. Neither were involved with the robbery, police said.

Monroe Police ask anyone with knowledge of the robbery to contact the Monroe Police Department at (608) 329-2400, or Green County Crimestoppers at 1-800-I-C-Crime.
