BRODHEAD - A 28-year-old man died early Thursday morning, police said, apparently after the tractor he was driving hit a parked car and overturned.
Patrick Holland was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred just before 4 a.m. on 14th Street, just west of E. 2nd Avenue.
Brodhead police said Holland's tractor left the road and collided with a parked vehicle, causing the tractor to overturn and trap Holland underneath.
As a result, about 20 gallons of fuel oil leaked from the tractor. Personnel from Green County Emergency Management and state Department of Natural Resources responded.
It does not appear that fuel entered the city's sewer system, police said. City workers late Thursday were planning to remove and replace the topsoil to get rid of the fuel.
