MONROE - Registrations for the "Painting the Landscape and Townscape of the Monroe Area" painting workshop, led by Green County artists Jonathan Wilde and Tina Duemler, are now being accepted.
Workshop hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3, as well as from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4. The workshop will be held at the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 11th St.
The workshop will focus on the elements of plein aire landscape painting using watercolor and oil. Serving as subject matter will be the natural and restored landscape of Green County and the historic city of Monroe.
"En plein aire," is a French expression which means "in the open air," and is particularly used to describe the act of painting outdoors, or on-sight. Workshop participants will learn how to go about capturing what they see and how they feel about their subject matter. A discussion on the technical aspects of painting, as well as how to begin and resolve specific challenges, will also be covered. Painting demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will be provided. The workshop is appropriate for all levels of artists.
Wilde and Duemler have co-taught painting workshops over the past several years. Wilde has been painting and exhibiting since 1970, and his work is in both private and public collections, including the Leigh Yawkley Woodson Art Museum, Smithsonian Institute, University of Wisconsin, University of Iowa, Miller Art Center, and World Center for Birds of Prey.
