MONROE - For the third time in two months, a Huber-privileged inmate has walked away from the Green County Jail.
Matthew D. Schupbach, 25, Brodhead, walked away from the jail at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday while out on work release.
Schupbach requested to go to a local business to fill out an application for employment, according to Green County Sheriff's Department Lt. Paul Weichbrod.
Inmates are required to call the jail when they arrive at their destination and before leaving to return to jail. Schupbach called the jail to say he was returning, but never came back.
Schupbach was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 18 months probation Oct. 14 after he pleaded no contest to battery and obstructing an officer, both class A misdemeanors. He faced up to 18 months in jail and up to $20,000 in fines. The charges were related to an incident that took place Aug. 11.
His probation was revoked July 1, and he was sentenced to nine months in jail with work release privileges.
On Thursday, he was charged with escape, a class H felony. He faces up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines, if convicted.
Two other inmates with Huber privileges walked away, May 29 and June 15, and later were returned to custody.
