MONROE - A Monroe woman fed up with construction noise at her southwest-side trailer park was arrested Tuesday afternoon after she yelled and pointed a BB gun at the construction workers, according to police.

Dawn L. Dean, 46, was booked on a charge of disorderly conduct and released pending court.

Police responded just before 3 p.m. Tuesday to a complaint from construction workers installing concrete pads at Monroe Estates, 560 West 21st Street.

Dean was reportedly angered by the construction noise and screamed at the workers to stop.

"They said she pointed a BB gun at them," Monroe Police Chief Fred Kelley said.

When officers arrived, a neighbor said Dean had left for the store but would be back. Officers arrested her upon her return.

Police have referred the case to the Green County District Attorney for review. Dean could face a more serious charge - disorderly conduct while armed with a dangerous weapon - but Kelley said because a BB gun is not a firearm, the arresting officers believed it didn't fit that charge's requirement for the presence of a "dangerous weapon."

"We'll see if the DA disagrees," he said.
