MONROE - Twenty-eight photographs by 15 photographers were recently judged for the Monroe Arts Center's 19th Annual Photography Contest and Exhibit.

The three entry classifications this year were Junior (under 18 years of age), Adult/Beginner, and Adult/Advanced, each with the sesquicentennial theme of "Views of Green County."

The winners in the Junior Classification were: Best of Show - Alexa Schmidt of Monroe for her photo "Hide and Seek" and First Runner-up was Maddisyn Bauman of Monroe for her photo "Happiness."

Adult/Beginner Classification winners were: First place - Nancy Schmidt, Monroe; second place - Jennifer Rikkers, Monroe; third place - Jean Busker, Monroe. Honorable Mention ribbon awards went to Jean Busker, Susan Ivanko, Jennifer Rikkers and Mary Schmidt.

Adult/Advanced Classification winners were: First place - Anne Watman, Monroe; second place - Bobbie Bernet, Monroe; third place - James Meldrum, Beloit. Honorable Mention ribbon awards went to James Meldrum and Anne Watman.

The Best of Show in the overall Adult Classification went to Nancy Schmidt for the photo "Perfectly Preserved," first runner-up was Rikkers, with "Monroe's Japanese Maple," and second runner-up was Watman with her photo "Old-Fashioned Manpower."

The judges for this year's contest were Mary Soddy, owner of Creative Photography in Monroe, Fine art/commercial/medical photographer, John Peterson of Monroe and journalistic photographer Kareesa Wilson, also of Monroe.

All of the entries in the contest are on display in Monroe Arts Center's Wesley Hall through Sept. 26. The Best of Show and runner-up winning photographs will be posted on the MAC Web site at www.monroeartscenter.com.
